The North Central Railway has officially launched a significant infrastructure project to extend Platform Number One at Etah Railway Station. This initiative, sanctioned by senior officials from the North Central Railway and the Agra Division (Prayagraj), is designed to resolve long-standing boarding issues and accommodate modern, longer train compositions. Key updates regarding this development include:
- The existing 244-meter platform is being extended by 170 to 175 meters.
- The total length will reach approximately 414 to 419 meters upon completion.
- The upgraded platform will support express and passenger trains with up to 16 coaches.
- Project scope includes improved lighting, passenger sheds, drinking water, and sanitation facilities.
Addressing Safety and Connectivity
Currently, the short length of the platform has been a major source of inconvenience, particularly for elderly passengers, women, and children. Previously, when 12-coach trains arrived, several coaches would extend beyond the platform’s edge, forcing passengers to jump onto the tracks or struggle while boarding and alighting. This expansion directly addresses these safety risks and ensures a seamless travel experience for the local community.
Shashikant Tripathi, Chief Public Relations Officer for North Central Railway, confirmed that this project will facilitate the operation of more long-distance trains and significantly boost the station’s operational capacity. The move follows persistent advocacy from local media outlets, which highlighted the daily challenges faced by commuters at Etah.
Construction Progress and Amenities
Railway engineering teams are currently focused on the initial phase of the project, which involves the removal of old sleepers and tracks to clear the area for the platform extension. Once the structural work is complete, the station will undergo a broader transformation to improve passenger amenities. In addition to the platform expansion, the railway has committed to installing better lighting, new passenger shelters, and upgraded water and toilet facilities. These enhancements are expected to make Etah station a more comfortable and efficient transit point for passengers across the region.
