Starting August 1, 2026, Indian Railways is set to implement significant changes to its Tatkal ticket booking process, alongside broader national updates regarding financial KYC norms and LPG pricing. These measures are designed to curb ticket black marketing and improve the experience for genuine passengers.
- New token system for Tatkal bookings at reservation counters in West Central Railway.
- Specific time slots for AC and Non-AC class ticket requests.
- Launch of CKYC 2.0 to streamline financial verification across institutions.
- Monthly revision of LPG cylinder prices by Oil Marketing Companies.
New Tatkal Booking Rules
To tackle the persistent issue of touts and agent malpractice, the West Central Railway (WCR) is launching a mandatory token system for Tatkal bookings. This new procedure will debut in the Bhopal Division, covering major stations including Bhopal, Rani Kamalapati, Narmadapuram, Itarsi, and Kota.
Under the new rules, passengers must collect a token to book Tatkal tickets. The distribution schedule is set for 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM for AC class and 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM for Non-AC class. To obtain a token, passengers are required to present a valid photo ID. Priority will be given to Category A passengers, who are booking for themselves or immediate family members. Each counter is currently slated to issue a maximum of 10 tokens for AC and 15 tokens for Non-AC, though railway officials have noted these numbers may be adjusted based on real-time demand. Senior DCM Saurabh Kataria emphasized that this initiative is a direct step toward preventing fraudulent bookings and ensuring fair access for genuine travellers.
Financial and Utility Updates
Beyond the railways, August 1 marks the launch of the Central KYC 2.0 (CKYC 2.0) system. This digital upgrade aims to simplify customer identification by storing verified data in a central registry. Financial institutions will be able to access this data with customer consent via OTP, significantly reducing repetitive paperwork and enhancing fraud detection through a new “confidence score.”
Additionally, households should prepare for the monthly revision of LPG cylinder prices. While commercial prices fluctuated in July, these adjustments remain tied to international crude oil rates and currency exchange values. For taxpayers, it is important to note that there are no new changes to ITR deadlines for August; the standard deadlines remain in place, with experts urging timely filing to avoid last-minute technical glitches or penalties.
