Northern Railway has officially sounded a high-security alert across all major railway stations in the Delhi region to ensure public safety during the upcoming Independence Day celebrations. Effective from August 13 to 16, 2026, this directive includes strict monitoring of passengers and a temporary suspension of parcel services to mitigate potential security risks. Authorities have also displayed posters of 19 most wanted terrorists, including operatives from al-Qaeda and the Indian Mujahideen, at various stations, with rewards announced for credible information.
- Security Alert Period: August 13 to 16, 2026.
- Parcel Suspension: August 12 to 15, 2026, at five major Delhi terminals.
- Security Measures: Three-tier surveillance involving RPF and GRP with enhanced CCTV monitoring.
- Passenger Advisory: Arrive early and carry only personal luggage to avoid delays.
Restrictions on Parcel Services
To maintain a secure environment, Northern Railway has completely suspended parcel booking and handling services at New Delhi, Delhi Junction, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar Terminal, and Delhi Sarai Rohilla. This ban remains in effect from August 12 to 15, 2026, and applies to all incoming and outgoing parcel traffic, including leased luggage racks and parcel vans. Furthermore, Jalna Railway Station has also implemented similar temporary restrictions for all Delhi-bound trains between August 11 and 15.
Enhanced Security Protocols
According to Northern Railway CPRO Himanshu Upadhyay, a three-tier security system has been activated. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) have significantly increased their presence across platforms and station premises. Commuters can expect intensive security checks of their belongings and person, and the railway has specifically increased the deployment of female security personnel to assist in these screenings.
Railway officials urge passengers to arrive at stations well in advance to account for the longer processing times caused by these heightened security measures. Travelers are strictly advised to carry only personal baggage and to remain vigilant. If you spot any suspicious items or individuals, please report the matter immediately to the nearest RPF post or local police station. Continuous surveillance is being maintained via CCTV cameras, and all platforms and warehouses are being kept clear of unauthorized packages to ensure maximum visibility and safety.
