To accommodate the massive surge in pilgrims travelling for the ongoing Shravani Mela, Indian Railways has introduced a series of unreserved special train services connecting key pilgrimage hubs. These additional trains are designed to ensure smoother transit for Kanwariyas and devotees heading toward sacred sites. Starting from August 17, these services will operate across multiple routes to facilitate easy travel, while existing special trains have received extensions to manage the heavy footfall expected during the festival period.
Key highlights of the Shravani Mela special services include:
- New unreserved special trains introduced on routes: Basukinath-Gorakhpur, Basukinath-Patna, Asansol-Gorakhpur, and Madhupur-Narkatiaganj.
- Operational periods for the Gaya-Madhupur and Gaya-DDU special trains extended until August 28.
- Each special train will feature 22 coaches, consisting of 20 sleeper/general class carriages and two SLR coaches.
- Enhanced security and crowd management measures at key stations like Kiul, Jasidih, and Patna.
Enhanced Connectivity and Passenger Support
Officials from Eastern Railway and East Central Railway, including CPRO Saraswati Chandra, have confirmed that the deployment of these trains is a strategic move to ease congestion at major transit points. The decision to run these services acknowledges the significant rise in passenger numbers during the holy month of Shravan. By focusing on routes that link major hubs, the railways aim to provide a more reliable travel experience for pilgrims who often face overcrowding during this time.
Safety and Crowd Management
Beyond the introduction of new services, Indian Railways is prioritising passenger safety and station management. RPF and GRP personnel are being deployed in increased numbers across the network to maintain order and assist travellers. In addition to security, commercial staff have been tasked with overseeing ticket-checking operations and providing guidance to passengers navigating the busy platforms. The railways urge pilgrims to follow station announcements and cooperate with the staff to ensure a safe and orderly journey.
