Indian Railways has officially announced the Tatkal booking schedule for passengers planning to travel on August 25, with reservations scheduled to open a day prior on August 24. To help travellers plan their journeys smoothly, here are the essential details regarding the upcoming booking window, timings, and updated security protocols.
Passengers looking to secure their seats for the upcoming weekend rush should note the specific timings released by railway authorities. AC class reservations will commence sharply at 10:00 AM, while bookings for Sleeper and non-AC classes will open at 11:00 AM.
New Aadhaar Authentication and Portal Upgrades
To tackle heavy online traffic and prevent fraudulent bookings, Indian Railways has mandated that all online Tatkal reservations must be processed through Aadhaar-verified IRCTC accounts. Passengers will need to complete an OTP authentication sent directly to their linked mobile number to finalise their transaction. Furthermore, the IRCTC backend system has recently undergone a major upgrade to ensure the portal remains stable during peak traffic hours, reducing the chances of sudden server crashes or lag.
Agent Restrictions and Station Token Systems
To ensure that genuine travellers get priority access, authorized ticketing agents are strictly restricted from booking during the first 30 minutes of each window. Agents cannot book AC tickets between 10:00 AM and 10:30 AM, nor can they book non-AC tickets between 11:00 AM and 11:30 AM.
For commuters preferring physical reservation counters, the West Central Railway has introduced a convenient token system to manage heavy crowds. Under this system, tokens for AC coaches are distributed from 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM, followed by non-AC tokens from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM. At these counters, passengers are divided into Group A—which prioritizes individuals booking for themselves or family members with valid ID proof—and Group B for all other applicants.
