In a big step for Assam’s Bodoland area, the Northeast Frontier Railway is launching important projects to improve transport and economy. This initiative is focused on the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts.
A major part of this development is a new Wagon Periodic Overhauling Workshop planned for Basbari in Kokrajhar district. This workshop will be built over about 2,500 bighas, with an initial cost of around Rs 256.35 crore.
The workshop will start by servicing around 75 wagons every month, gradually increasing to 250 wagons. It’s conveniently located near Basbari railway station and Rupsi Airport, which will help create job opportunities and skills training for local youth.
Additionally, there’s a new railway line project connecting Kokrajhar in Assam to Gelephu in Bhutan, spanning about 69 km. This project, which is part of a special railway initiative, is estimated to cost Rs 4,033 crore.
Station upgrades are also happening under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Stations like Kokrajhar and Gossaigaon Hat will see improvements including better facilities. With these developments, the railway aims to enhance services and safety in the region.
