The Samastipur Railway Division is planning a major upgrade for Semra station in the East Champaran district of Bihar. Officials have confirmed that a Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal (GCT) will be built here to boost logistics. A joint survey for this project was completed and the report was formally submitted to railway authorities on February 6, 2026. This new development aims to improve goods transport and create new opportunities for the local population.

Who is building the terminal and where?
The project is being developed in partnership with a private company, M/s. Kartik Grain Infra Private Limited (KGIPL), under a Silo Project model. The terminal will be built on private land but will connect directly to the railway network. According to the plan, the connectivity will start from the dead end of the overrun line of loop line number four at Semra station, extending towards the Motihari end.
A joint team including the Traffic Inspector, Senior Section Engineers, and company representatives inspected the site. A 150-meter railway line will be laid parallel to the Down Main Line to facilitate movement. The site is also well-connected to the National Highway through a nearby village road, making it easy for trucks to access the facility.
How will this benefit the common people?
This project is expected to generate direct and indirect employment for hundreds of local residents in the East Champaran region. Once operational, the terminal will become a major hub for transporting food grains and other essential goods, shifting heavy cargo from roads to the railway network.
The terminal is being set up under the Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal Policy introduced in 2021. This policy simplifies rules and reduces costs to encourage better freight movement across India. While the final project cost is yet to be decided, officials state that construction will begin as soon as the proposal gets final approval.
