Indian Railways is making a major shift in how passengers book tickets online. Starting March 1, 2026, the popular UTS app used for unreserved ticketing will be permanently discontinued. Passengers will now have to use the new ‘RailOne’ super app for all their travel needs. The Ministry of Railways confirmed that this move aims to bring all services under one platform, effectively merging the functionalities of IRCTC Rail Connect and UTS on Mobile into a single interface.

Why is Booking on RailOne Cheaper than IRCTC?

The new RailOne app is not just about convenience; it is also saving money for regular travelers. Reports confirm that booking tickets via RailOne attracts lower convenience fees compared to the older IRCTC app. For instance, on a journey from Bhagalpur to Anand Vihar, the convenience fee is approximately ₹23 on RailOne, while the IRCTC app charges ₹35. Furthermore, passengers using the RailOne app get a 3% discount on unreserved tickets when paying digitally.

Ticket prices also vary depending on the payment mode used on the new app. Here is a comparison of fares for a 3AC ticket on the Vikramshila Express from Bhagalpur to Delhi:

Platform & Payment Mode Total Fare
IRCTC App (Debit Card) ₹1603
RailOne App (Debit Card) ₹1570.40
RailOne App (UPI) ₹1558.60

What Will Happen to Old UTS and IRCTC Accounts?

Many passengers are concerned about their existing login details and wallet balances. Officials have clarified that users do not need to create a new ID if they already have one. Your existing IRCTC and UTS credentials will work on RailOne through a Single Sign-On (SSO) system. This means you can use your old username and password to log in without any hassle.

regarding money stored in the R-Wallet of the UTS app, the Railway Administration has assured that it is completely safe. The balance will automatically transfer to the RailOne app once you log in with your credentials. Additionally, recharging the R-Wallet on the new app now provides a 3% bonus, which was not available on the standard IRCTC app.

New Rules and Features for Passengers

The transition to RailOne comes with upgraded technology and stricter rules. The new backend system is designed to handle 1.5 lakh ticket bookings per second, which is expected to reduce failures during Tatkal hours. However, users must note that since July 2025, Aadhaar-verified IRCTC IDs are mandatory for booking Tatkal tickets to prevent misuse by agents.

For those who just want to check PNR status or train running time, the RailOne app offers a ‘Guest Access’ mode. This allows users to check information by simply entering their mobile number and an OTP, without needing to log in fully. Helpdesks have been set up at major stations like Bhagalpur to assist passengers facing issues during this migration.
