Bhagalpur is set for a major infrastructure boost as the Baunsi Railway Overbridge (ROB) project achieves a significant technical milestone. The Eastern Railway has officially approved the bearing force calculations for the new bridge on the Bhagalpur-Goraadih route. This technical clearance from the Chief Bridge Engineer ensures that the structure can safely handle the weight of both trains and road traffic. The project is being developed with a clear target to finish all construction work by 2027.
What is the current status of the Baunsi Railway Overbridge?
The construction work is currently moving at a fast pace with several key stages already completed. According to official reports, the foundation work is approximately 30% finished, and the piling for 21 pillars has been successfully done. At present, workers are focusing on raising the fifth pillar, and the casting for the pillar caps is complete. Hardev Construction Private Limited, the agency handling the project, has started setting up permanent camps to ensure that the work continues without any delays.
How will this bridge benefit the people of Bhagalpur?
Once completed, the Baunsi ROB will provide a direct and smooth connection between Kachahari Chowk and the Bypass road. This will be a huge relief for the southern part of Bhagalpur, which often faces heavy traffic congestion. Some key highlights of the project include:
- Improved Connectivity: It will connect Mirjanhat Shitala Sthan directly to Bhikhanpur Gumti Number 3.
- Traffic Relief: The bridge is expected to handle the movement of 10,000 to 12,000 vehicles every day.
- No More Waterlogging: This project will solve the chronic waterlogging problem at the existing Baunsi underpass.
- Project Cost: The work was awarded for approximately 66.96 crore rupees, which is lower than the initial tender estimate.
- Land Acquisition: Around 2.8 acres of land is being acquired across different wards to facilitate the construction.
