Mumbai commuters will face significant travel disruptions this weekend as Western and Central Railway carry out essential infrastructure work. A massive 21-hour jumbo block on the Western line and a mega block on the Central line will result in the cancellation of hundreds of local train services. Passengers are advised to plan their journeys in advance and check official schedules to avoid any trouble during the weekend.
Western Railway jumbo block details and impact
Western Railway will operate a 21-hour jumbo block starting from 10:30 PM on Friday, March 28, until 7:30 PM on Sunday, March 29. This work involves the re-girdering of Bridge Number 61 between Kandivali and Borivali stations. More than 330 local trains will remain cancelled during this period to facilitate the infrastructure upgrades.
- Slow line trains will be diverted to fast lines between Goregaon and Borivali stations
- Down fast trains will skip halts at Ram Mandir, Malad, and Kandivali
- Borivali station platforms 1 and 2 will remain out of service during the block
- All 15-car slow local trains will operate as fast trains between Andheri and Borivali
- Around 25 extra services will be operated to reduce passenger inconvenience
Central Railway mega block and service suspension
Central Railway has scheduled its mega block on Sunday, March 29, affecting the Main Line and Trans-Harbour Line. The Trans-Harbour Line will see a complete shutdown of services between Thane and Vashi or Nerul for several hours. This work is necessary for routine maintenance and safety upgrades on the busy rail network.
| Line Name | Affected Section | Block Timing |
|---|---|---|
| Main Line | Matunga to Mulund | 11:05 AM to 3:55 PM |
| Trans-Harbour | Thane to Vashi/Nerul | 11:10 AM to 4:10 PM |
During the block on the Main Line, slow local trains will run on the fast tracks and skip stops at Vidyavihar, Kanjur Marg, and Nahur stations. Passengers should expect delays of up to 20 minutes on these routes. Local bus services like BEST and NMMT will provide additional buses on affected routes to help people reach their destinations.
