Performance updates for the 2025-26 fiscal year
In the subsequent fiscal year ending March 31, 2026, manufacturing units continued to set new benchmarks. Chittaranjan Locomotive Works manufactured 800 electric locomotives, marking its highest annual production. Banaras Locomotive Works also achieved a record by producing 572 locomotives, which included modern electric engines and units for the Amrit Bharat trains. These achievements align with the vision for complete electrification and sustainable transport across the Indian rail network.
Types of locomotives manufactured for railway operations
The production efforts focused on various locomotive models designed for different operational needs. Most of the units produced were intended for freight services to boost the logistics sector. The production included the following categories
- WAG-9 and WAG-9H locomotives for heavy freight
- WAP-7 and WAP-5 locomotives for passenger trains
- WAG-12B and WDG-4G models for high-capacity hauling
- Amrit Bharat locomotives for enhanced passenger travel
- Export units for international customers
