Western Railway suburban services faced significant disruptions on Sunday morning, April 12, 2026, due to a technical issue on the line. A breakdown in the overhead equipment (OHE) occurred between Bhayandar and Naigaon stations, causing many trains to come to a complete halt. Commuters traveling towards Virar were primarily affected as the down through line remained blocked for several hours while technical teams worked on repairs.
Impact on train services and passengers
- The disruption started around 7:52 AM near the kilometre marker 44/1-6.
- Approximately 15 to 20 suburban services were cancelled because of the snag.
- Around 50 trains were delayed, leading to massive crowds at several stations.
- Many passengers were seen walking on the tracks as trains were stranded between stations for a long time.
Restoration steps taken by Western Railway
Railway officials dispatched a tower wagon from Vasai Road to the site to fix the overhead wires. To move the stranded local and MEMU trains, diesel locomotives were brought in to provide necessary power. While two trains were cleared relatively quickly, the engineering team spent additional time moving the final affected EMU train to ensure the tracks were safe for regular operations. Normal services were expected to resume once the repair work on the down through line was completed.
