Amazon India has officially made history by becoming the first e-commerce company to utilize the Joint Parcel Product-Rapid Cargo Service on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor. This major milestone aims to speed up deliveries and lower logistics costs for millions of customers. Key highlights of this launch include the inaugural train flagged off on August 18 2026 at the New Dadri Railway Station and a return service starting from New Ancheli to New Dadri on August 20 2026. The daily service uses more than 10 Van Parcels to connect major cities like Delhi Ahmedabad and Surat while offering onward connectivity to Pune Mumbai and Goa.
Boosting Speed and Sustainability
The Western Dedicated Freight Corridor spans approximately 1504 km from New Dadri in Uttar Pradesh to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Terminal near Mumbai. Dr Manoj Singh from the Railway Board stated that the Dedicated Freight Corridor offers a greener faster and more reliable transportation mode. He further noted that the service can move 350 to 400 tonnes of cargo within 24 hours to facilitate seamless overnight transit and support sustainable freight solutions for smaller businesses.
Expanding Railway Partnerships
Kishore Lanka from Amazon India remarked that the partnership strongly supports the Indian government vision of Viksit Bharat and Viksit Rail. Amazon India started its collaboration with Indian Railways back in 2019 and has now expanded operations from a single train to over 140 trains across 130 intercity routes serving more than 100 destination cities. This massive expansion is specifically designed to decongest existing networks increase freight train speeds and reduce overall logistics costs just in time for the upcoming festive shopping season.
