Indian Railways is significantly improving passenger travel experience by transitioning the Bhopal-Gwalior Express to modern Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches. Passengers travelling on this route can now experience enhanced safety, better comfort, and greater efficiency as the railway network continues its nationwide rollout of advanced rolling stock. The upgradation process began with the train operating on the new coach structure effective August 5, 2026, while further operational adjustments are slated to be implemented from August 25, 2026.
Travellers planning their journeys should take note of the updated train composition. The revised rake structure of the Bhopal-Gwalior Express now comprises 12 general category coaches and 3 sleeper coaches. This change aligns with the ongoing objective of Indian Railways to systematically phase out older Integral Coach Factory (ICF) coaches in favour of safer, jerk-free LHB technology.
Broader Fleet Modernization in Bhopal Division
This transition is part of a larger, continuous effort by the Bhopal Division of the West Central Railway to modernize its entire fleet throughout 2026. Earlier this year, the division successfully upgraded the Bhopal-Jodhpur Express in April, alongside introducing LHB coaches to the Mahamana Express and the Rani Kamlapati-Adhartal Express in February. Furthermore, railway authorities have been actively deploying 3AC Economy coaches across ten major routes to make air-conditioned travel more affordable and accessible for everyday commuters.
Regular passengers should also remember previous operational tweaks on this specific route. The Bhopal-Gwalior Express previously underwent a minor timetable revision on January 1, 2026, when its scheduled departure time from the originating station was shifted slightly from 15:15 hours to 15:10 hours. Passengers are advised to check their updated coach positions and train schedules through the NTES or IRCTC portals before heading to the station.
