Bokaro Railway Station is set to enhance passenger comfort with the addition of a new escalator which will be ready for public use soon. This facility is being installed as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, a large-scale modernization project aimed at upgrading station infrastructure across the country. The total cost of the station redevelopment is estimated at approximately 33.5 crore and is being executed by the South Eastern Railway under the Adra Division.
Key features of the modernization project
The redevelopment of Bokaro Steel City station includes several modern upgrades designed to provide a better travel experience. By the end of 2025, officials reported that 95 percent of the work was already completed, with the remaining tasks expected to be finished by early 2026. The project has already delivered a revamped station facade, VIP lounges, a dedicated concourse, and modern entry and exit gates. Additionally, a new electrical substation and surveillance rooms have been built to ensure better management and safety at the premises.
Benefits for the passengers and station updates
The addition of the new escalator is specifically aimed at assisting elderly passengers, women, and persons with disabilities in moving between platforms. Currently, the station handles a daily traffic of around 6,000 to 7,000 passengers, making the expansion of such facilities necessary. Apart from the escalator, other improvements include:
- Upgraded second-class waiting halls for better comfort
- New foot overbridge featuring modern false ceilings
- Expanded parking areas and improved circulating zones
- Modernized VIP lounge and passenger concourse area
Railway officials have stated that these developments will not only offer modern amenities but also ensure a smoother journey for the thousands of people who visit the station every day.
