Indian Railways has announced a major change in train numbers for several popular express trains running through the Asansol division. This update is set to be implemented from April 2026. While the names, routes, and schedules of these trains will remain the same, their category is being changed from Superfast to Mail/Express. This administrative move is designed to bring more uniformity to the railway system and improve management across different divisions.

Passengers planning to travel during or after April 2026 should note the new numbers for booking tickets and checking status. Here are the key trains affected by this change:

|---|---|---|
| Upasana Express | 12327/12328 | 13035/13036 |

Why the railway is changing these train numbers
According to railway officials, the change from Superfast to Mail/Express is part of an effort to streamline operations. Asansol PRO and other senior officials like Mohammad Iqbal have confirmed that this shift will not affect the speed or the number of stops for these trains. One positive outcome for passengers could be a reduction in fares. Since these trains will no longer be in the Superfast category, the additional Superfast surcharge may be removed from the ticket price. Passengers are encouraged to use the updated numbers for all future travel inquiries to avoid any confusion during their journey.
