North Western Railway Jodhpur Division has moved a step closer to upgrading regional rail infrastructure by submitting a Detailed Project Report for the Luni-Marwar doubling project. This 70-kilometer stretch, estimated to cost ₹823 crore, is designed to eliminate operational bottlenecks and improve train speed. Once approved by the Railway Board, the project will transform the travel experience for passengers in Rajasthan by reducing waiting times for crossings.
Key Details of the Luni-Marwar Doubling Project
The project focuses on converting the existing single line into a double line to handle increasing traffic. It is divided into two major sections for administrative and execution purposes to ensure efficient completion. This initiative is part of the larger Luni-Samdari-Bhildi doubling project which has already received Cabinet approval.
- Luni-Kairla Section: Spanning 26 kilometers with an estimated cost of ₹312 crore
- Kairla-Marwar Junction Section: Spanning 46 kilometers with an estimated cost of ₹483 crore
- Total Length: Approximately 70 kilometers
- Total Estimated Cost: ₹823 crore
- Electrification: The entire section is already electrified, facilitating immediate electric train operations upon doubling
Operational Impact and Official Statements
Divisional Railway Manager Jodhpur, Anurag Tripathi, confirmed that the DPR has been sent to the Railway Board for final sanction. He emphasized that the doubling will significantly improve punctuality and overall operational efficiency in the region. The project encompasses various civil engineering works including laying new tracks, sleeper work, and construction of minor bridges and culverts.
