Indian Railways is launching a new regular parcel train service between Adarsh Nagar in New Delhi and Budgam in central Kashmir from April 17, 2026. This initiative, titled Joint Parcel Product-Rapid Cargo Service (JPP-RCS), aims to provide a faster and more reliable transport route for the region produce. The service is designed to bridge the distance between the national capital and the valley in less than a day.

Key Highlights of the Delhi-Kashmir Parcel Service

Service Name Joint Parcel Product-Rapid Cargo Service (JPP-RCS)
Start Date April 17, 2026
Route Adarsh Nagar (Delhi) to Budgam (Kashmir)
Duration 23 to 24 hours
Trial Period Up to May 31, 2026
Major Stops Bari Brahmana and Ambala Cantonment

Why is this service important for local traders and farmers?

The Northern Railway Jammu Division is starting this service to address the long-standing demand from the trading community for a faster mode of transport. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal noted that the train will offer a safe and economical alternative to road transport. By reducing the transit time to less than a day, perishable items like apples and cherries can reach Delhi markets in better condition. This move will boost the local economy of Jammu and Kashmir by facilitating the easy movement of saffron, walnuts, and handicrafts across the country. The service will initially run on a trial basis to monitor occupancy levels before becoming a permanent fixture.
