The Delhi government has initiated a comprehensive plan to eliminate traffic bottlenecks at various railway crossings across the national capital. PWD Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh has directed the Public Works Department to conduct feasibility tests at 8 to 10 strategic locations to identify where tunnels or flyovers can be constructed. This move aims to provide much-needed relief to thousands of commuters who face daily delays due to train movements and closed crossing gates.

Major projects planned for signal-free travel in Delhi

- New Tunnel: A 5-kilometer long tunnel is planned from Shiv Murti to Nelson Mandela Marg near the airport at an estimated cost of 3,500 crore rupees.
- Feasibility Studies: PWD is currently evaluating 8 to 10 new sites for tunnels and flyovers to bypass railway lines.
- Progress Update: The Tunnel-5 at Pragati Maidan-Bhairon Marg is expected to be completed within 7 to 8 months after getting necessary approvals.
