The Railway Board has issued a significant order introducing a new equivalence matrix for Loco Pilots. This decision aims to resolve a long-standing dispute regarding promotions and seniority within the running staff. Mail, Express, and Passenger train pilots will now be considered on par with Level 7 engineers for promotion to officer ranks. This move recognizes the technical skills and high level of responsibility handled by the pilots on a daily basis.
How does the new promotion formula work for Loco Pilots?
Under the new rules, Loco Pilots working in pay level 6 are now equated with stationary staff in level 7 for promotion purposes. This change applies specifically to Group C employees looking to move into Group B officer positions under the 70 percent selection quota. The order, issued by Joint Director Aarti Singh Lal, ensures that the experience of running staff is officially valued. CPRO Shashi Kant Tripathi confirmed that all zonal railways are instructed to follow these new guidelines to maintain uniformity in seniority lists.
