Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will flag off the extended Srinagar-Jammu Vande Bharat Express on April 30, 2026, from Jammu Tawi Railway Station. To handle the high demand from passengers, the train’s capacity has been increased from 8 to 20 coaches. This new extension will directly connect Srinagar with Jammu Tawi, making travel easier for locals and tourists.

What are the new timings and route changes?

The train previously operated between Srinagar and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra. Now, it will extend its journey to Jammu Tawi, which is the largest railway hub in Jammu and Kashmir. A successful trial run was completed on April 28, 2026. The regular services for the general public will start from May 2, 2026.

What are the key features and benefits of the extended train?

The increase to 20 coaches is intended to reduce waitlists and provide more seats for passengers. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal stated that the train uses indigenous technology and offers a world-class experience. Key features include:

  • Kavach safety system for secure travel
  • GPS-based passenger information
  • Comfortable rotating seats
  • Direct connectivity for pilgrims and traders

Who will be part of the inauguration event?

Apart from Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Dr. Jitendra Singh from the PMO and MP Jugal Kishore Sharma are expected to attend the ceremony. After the flag-off, the Minister will also inspect the Chenab Bridge and Anji Bridge on the USBRL Corridor to review the progress of the rail link.
