Bhagalpur Junction is undergoing a significant transformation, with the recent inauguration of high-tech sleeping pods and the announcement of new special train services to cater to the heavy passenger influx during the Shravani Mela. These upgrades, overseen by the Malda Rail Division, aim to provide a modern, comfortable, and efficient transit experience for thousands of daily travelers and pilgrims.

Premium Sleeping Pods at Bhagalpur Station
In a move to offer hotel-like comfort at an affordable price, Bhagalpur station has launched its first-ever sleeping pod complex. Inaugurated between July 10 and 11, 2026, the facility is equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi, secure digital lockers, charging points, and 24×7 CCTV surveillance. Designed for transit passengers and pilgrims, this air-conditioned space ensures privacy and safety, setting a new benchmark for amenities in the Malda Division.
Special Train Services for Shravani Mela
To manage the surge of pilgrims, Indian Railways has ramped up connectivity. The Bhagalpur-Katihar Special Train will now run until August 31, 2026, covering key stations like Akbar Nagar, Sultanganj, and Munger. Additionally, new weekly services between Ranchi and Bhagalpur will operate from July 26 to September 12, 2026, featuring 16-coach rakes. Meanwhile, the Gandhidham-Bhagalpur Special (09451/09452) has been granted five extra trips, with a temporary route change via Fatehpur, Prayagraj, and Varanasi due to ongoing infrastructure work at Lucknow station.
Future Redevelopment and Infrastructure Upgrades
Bhagalpur Junction is set for a major overhaul as part of the Indian Railways initiative to upgrade 148 stations nationwide. The ambitious Rs 481.60 crore master plan aims to provide airport-like facilities, with tendering processes already underway. Beyond the main junction, a new station is being planned near Chaudharidih village at an estimated cost of Rs 200 crores. Furthermore, commuters can look forward to widened platforms two and three, and the extension of platforms five and six, which have received approval from the Commissioner of Railway Safety to accommodate longer trains.
