The North Eastern Railway is gearing up for a significant infrastructure milestone as it prepares to conduct a high-speed trial on the newly constructed third rail line between Gonda Junction and Kachari Railway Station. Scheduled for July 8, 2026, this trial run is a mandatory precursor to the final inspection by the Commissioner of Rail Safety (CRS), which is slated for July 10, 2026. Railway authorities have issued a stern advisory to the public, urging residents to stay clear of the tracks and remain vigilant during the high-speed testing process.
Project Progress and Timeline
The expansion project, which covers an approximately five-kilometer stretch, has been under intensive development since June 10, 2026. The work involves complex non-interlocking procedures that were approved under a mega block sanctioned by the Railway Board, lasting from June 10 to July 9, 2026. According to Mahesh Gupta, the Public Relations Officer for the Lucknow Division, the project is nearing its final stages, with full completion expected by July 10, 2026. Regional Manager Jitendra Kumar noted that the project’s ambitious 30-day timeline reflects the intensive engineering efforts dedicated to enhancing regional connectivity.
Impact on Train Services
The ongoing construction and the associated non-interlocking works have necessitated adjustments to the rail schedule in the region. Passengers are advised to note that several train services on the Gonda route have been cancelled or diverted between July 7 and July 11, 2026. In certain instances, these service disruptions extend until July 12, 2026.
Chief Public Relations Officer Pankaj Kumar Singh of North Eastern Railway, Gorakhpur, emphasized the long-term benefits of this third-line expansion. Once fully operational, the new line is expected to significantly reduce congestion and improve the fluidity of train movements through the busy Gonda Junction hub. Passengers are encouraged to check the latest updates on the official IRCTC portal or the North Eastern Railway website before planning their journeys during this transition period.
