Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw visited the Medha Bogie Factory in Hyderabad on Saturday, July 11, 2026, to review the nation’s growing rail manufacturing capabilities. Accompanied by Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy and other dignitaries, the minister inspected production lines and assessed the technical advancements driving India’s railway infrastructure.
Key highlights from the visit include:
• Hyderabad is being developed as a strategic ‘high-speed hub’ with three dedicated bullet train corridors planned for the region.
• The government has allocated a significant ₹5,400 crore railway budget specifically for Telangana.
• Medha Bogie Factory, India’s largest private rail coach facility, maintains an annual capacity of 500 coaches and 50 locomotives.
• The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train’s first section, connecting Surat and Bilimore, is set to begin operations in 2027.
Expanding Global Footprint
During his interaction with engineers and manufacturing teams, Minister Vaishnaw praised the quality of components produced in India. He noted that the country is now a key exporter of complex electronics and propulsion systems to major global markets, including France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Poland, the US, and Japan. This growth aligns with the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, which focuses on fostering innovation and strengthening private sector participation in the railway ecosystem.
Strategic Investments in Telangana
Since its inauguration in June 2023 with an investment of ₹1,000 crore, the Medha Bogie Factory has become a cornerstone of railway manufacturing in the state. The minister also inspected an advanced driverless vehicle currently under development at the facility. Furthermore, the collaboration between Medha and the Swiss manufacturer Stadler Rail for a separate factory in Telangana reinforces the region’s importance in the global railway supply chain. By prioritizing skill development and high-end technical training, the government aims to ensure that these facilities meet international standards, cementing India’s reputation as a reliable hub for high-speed rail technology.
