Sarona Railway Station in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, has officially completed its comprehensive redevelopment journey under the flagship Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The station has been transformed into a modern transit facility at a total cost of 13.57 crore rupees. Completed in July 2026, the upgraded infrastructure focuses on passenger convenience, safety, and modern aesthetics, ensuring that smaller stations receive the same high-standard facilities as major railway hubs.
Key highlights of the upgraded Sarona Railway Station include:
- Installation of two new lifts for easier platform access.
- Enhanced security with a network of 14 CCTV cameras.
- Introduction of a new, spacious air concourse.
- Provision of modern entrances, wide foot overbridges, and platform cover sheds.
- Real-time information systems including coach guidance displays and digital signage.
- Comprehensive accessibility features, including ramps, reserved parking, accessible toilets, and low-height counters for disabled passengers.
Strategic Connectivity and Future Growth
Under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager Dayanand, the project aims to streamline the travel experience for thousands of daily commuters. A significant addition to the project is the new approach road connecting the station directly to AIIMS, which is expected to provide immense relief to patients and their families traveling for medical care. Given its strategic proximity to NH-53 and Tatibandh Chowk, Sarona is rapidly emerging as a vital transit hub for the region.
Expanding the Amrit Bharat Vision
Sarona is one of five major stations within the Raipur railway division to successfully complete its transformation. Alongside Bhilai, Urkura, Bhanupratappur, and Balod, these stations represent a significant investment in regional infrastructure. Specifically, the combined investment for the redevelopment of Sarona and Balod stations stands at approximately 19.94 crore rupees. As the railway continues its modernization drive, work is already underway on an additional 10 stations within the division, further strengthening the connectivity across Chhattisgarh.
