Travelers using the Raipur division of the South East Central Railway can look forward to a significant upgrade in passenger experience as Sakhona and Balod railway stations undergo comprehensive modernization. Under the guidance of DRM Dayanand, these stations are being revamped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme to offer an airport-like atmosphere. The project focuses on integrating world-class infrastructure with local heritage to ensure seamless travel for thousands of daily passengers.
- Grand entry and exit gates with modernized aesthetic designs.
- Introduction of air-conditioned concourses via wide Foot Over Bridges (FOBs).
- Installation of new lifts and ramps for elderly and Divyangjan passengers.
- Enhanced passenger information through Coach Guidance Display Systems.
- Comprehensive beautification featuring local art, gardens, and improved lighting.
Modern Amenities and Accessibility
The redevelopment project prioritizes inclusivity and ease of navigation. To support Divyangjan (persons with disabilities), the stations are being equipped with specialized facilities, including low-height ticket booking counters, accessible drinking water booths, marked parking zones, and dedicated toilets. These upgrades are designed to remove physical barriers and ensure that every traveler can navigate the platforms with dignity and ease.
For general passengers, the station environment is being transformed through the installation of covered platform sheds, which offer essential protection during extreme weather. Furthermore, the circulating areas are being expanded and reorganized to manage traffic flow better, while widened approach roads will help reduce congestion during peak hours.
Focus on Safety and Security
Safety remains a core pillar of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The modernization plan includes the deployment of advanced CCTV surveillance networks and improved emergency response systems. With the addition of modern signage and systematic lighting, the stations will not only look better but will also provide a much safer environment for late-night commuters.
Part of a Nationwide Vision
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, initiated by the Ministry of Railways, serves as a long-term roadmap for upgrading over 1,300 stations across the country. In Chhattisgarh, 32 stations have been selected for this transformation, with Sakhona and Balod standing out as key beneficiaries. By blending modern engineering with local cultural aesthetics, the Indian Railways aims to redefine the station experience for the next generation of travelers, ensuring that railway hubs become the pride of their respective regions.
