Western Railway has officially launched a major safety initiative to secure its tracks by installing high-tech crash barriers across a 500-kilometer stretch connecting Ujjain, Ratlam, Indore, Bhopal, and Kota. The project, which commenced on July 13, 2026, is a strategic move to prevent unauthorized access and cattle intrusion, ensuring smoother train operations and enhanced security for passengers.

Key highlights of this railway safety project include:

  • Total coverage of 500 kilometers spanning across Ratlam, Ujjain, Indore, Bhopal, and Kota divisions.
  • Installation of 3.50-foot-high iron crash barriers to act as a physical wall against trespassers and livestock.
  • Project commencement date of July 13, 2026, with a focus on rapid completion.
  • Prioritization for Simhastha 2028 to manage the anticipated surge in passenger traffic.

Enhancing Safety Across Western Railway

These robust structures, often referred to as “iron walls,” are designed to completely restrict the entry of unauthorized individuals and animals onto the railway tracks. By creating a secure perimeter, Western Railway aims to significantly reduce the frequency of track-related accidents, thereby protecting both human lives and railway property. This proactive approach is essential for maintaining the integrity of the tracks in busy corridors where human and cattle movement has historically posed a challenge.

Strategic Preparation for Simhastha 2028

Indore Railway Public Relations Officer, Mukesh Kumar, emphasized that the primary objective of this massive infrastructure project is to minimize the risk of accidents. With the upcoming Simhastha 2028, the railway administration is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the infrastructure is prepared for the millions of pilgrims expected to travel by train. By focusing on the Ujjain division first, the railway is ensuring that the most critical areas are secured well in advance of the event. This initiative reflects a broader commitment by the Indian Railways to modernize track security and provide a safer, more reliable travel experience for commuters across the network.
