Indian Railways has announced a significant extension of various special train services to accommodate the heavy passenger rush during the ongoing summer season. By prolonging the operational period of numerous routes, the national transporter aims to clear long waiting lists and provide confirmed berths to travelers heading toward major cities. These extensions, which involve multiple railway zones, ensure that connectivity remains robust across the country through September 2026.
Key highlights of the extended train services include:
• East Central Railway (ECR) has extended 11 pairs of special trains to manage high-traffic routes.
• Central Railway is adding 216 additional trips, including the popular Pune-Danapur Daily Special.
• Northern Railway has prolonged services for key routes like Hazur Nanded-Hazrat Nizamuddin.
• This initiative is part of an effort to operate 18,262 summer special trips, a 47% increase over last year.
East Central Railway Service Extensions
According to ECR Chief Public Relations Officer Saraswati Chandra, the decision to extend services is aimed at passenger convenience. Several key routes connecting Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh to Bihar have received extensions. Specifically, the Udhna-Madhubani bi-weekly special is now available until August 2, 2026, while the Udhna-Hasanpur Road special will operate until July 28, 2026. Additionally, the Dr Ambedkar Nagar (Mhow)-Patna special has been extended until July 31, 2026, and the Valsad-Danapur special will continue services until July 28, 2026.
Expanded Connectivity via Central and Northern Railways
Central Railway has significantly boosted capacity by introducing 216 additional services. A major highlight is the Pune-Danapur Daily Special (Train No. 01449), which has been extended from July 16 to September 28, 2026, adding 75 services to the schedule. Meanwhile, Northern Railway has extended the operational window for several weekly specials, including the Hazur Nanded-Hazrat Nizamuddin and Udaipur City-Yog Nagari Rishikesh routes, throughout the month of July 2026.
These extensions are part of a massive nationwide strategy by Indian Railways. Between April 15 and July 15, 2026, the network planned to operate a total of 18,262 summer special train trips across 908 distinct trains. This represents a 47% increase compared to the previous year’s summer operations, reflecting the railway’s commitment to enhancing passenger experience and managing the seasonal surge in travel demand.
