Incessant heavy rainfall across Maharashtra, particularly in the Mumbai and Pune regions, has led to significant disruptions in rail connectivity, severely impacting train services between Maharashtra and Rajasthan. The combination of extensive waterlogging and multiple landslides has forced railway authorities to halt operations on several key routes, causing widespread cancellations, diversions, and delays since the start of July.
Key updates regarding the current rail situation:
- Over 24 trains have been fully cancelled since early July, with eight additional cancellations confirmed for the next two days.
- Major train services including 12240 Hisar-Mumbai Central Duronto Express and 12956 Jaipur-Mumbai Central Express are among those affected.
- More than three dozen trains are currently operating on diverted routes.
- Many trains are experiencing severe delays ranging from 10 to 15 hours.
- Help desks have been set up at Mumbai Central, Bandra Terminus, and Surat to assist passengers.

Official Response and Passenger Guidance
Railway officials are working round-the-clock to manage the crisis. Amit Sudarshan, Chief Public Relations Officer for North Western Railway, confirmed that the disruptions are a direct result of track waterlogging and safety concerns. Mukesh Kumar, Public Relations Officer for Western Railway’s Ratlam Division, highlighted that the situation is being exacerbated by persistent rainfall and landslides, particularly in the Pune region.
Authorities have strongly urged passengers to verify their train status through official channels before heading to the station. While the cancellations and diversions are causing significant inconvenience, railway officials maintain that these decisions are prioritised to ensure the safety and security of all passengers. Travelers are advised to stay updated via the NTES app or the official IRCTC website for real-time changes to their journey.
