Passengers travelling on the Bhagalpur-Sahibganj railway section today need to plan their journey carefully. The Malda Division of Eastern Railway has announced a major traffic and power block at Pirpainti station for Sunday, February 22, 2026. This block will last for more than six hours, disrupting the movement of several local passenger and DEMU trains on this route.

The block is scheduled to start at 10:00 AM and will continue until 4:10 PM. During this window of 6 hours and 10 minutes, the main line, loop line, and all siding lines at the station will remain completely closed. Authorities have advised commuters to check the train status before leaving their homes or use alternative road transport during the afternoon hours.
Reason for the mega block
This disruption is taking place to facilitate important infrastructure work under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Workers are launching a massive 12-meter wide steel girder for a new Foot Overbridge (FOB). This new bridge will connect platform numbers 1 and 2, making it safer for passengers to cross tracks in the future.
The redevelopment of Pirpainti station is being done at a cost of approximately ₹18.93 crore. Malda DRM Manish Kumar Gupta is overseeing the safety protocols and execution of this girder launching. Once completed, this 12-meter wide FOB will help in better crowd management at the station.
List of cancelled and delayed trains
Due to the closure of tracks, train operations have been significantly altered for the day. While trains passing before 10:00 AM, like the Dhuliyan passenger to Bhagalpur and Jaynagar-Howrah Express to Sahibganj, will run on time, others face cancellations and delays.
- Cancelled Trains: The 73420 Bhagalpur–Sahibganj DEMU and the 63411/63412 Sahibganj–Bhagalpur–Sahibganj Passenger trains will not run today.
- Rescheduled Train: The 53403 Rampurhat–Gaya Passenger has been rescheduled. It will depart from Rampurhat station 3 hours later than its usual time.
- halted Service: Any other train scheduled to pass through Pirpainti between 10:00 AM and 4:10 PM will be halted at nearby stations and will resume only after the block is lifted.
