A freight train derailed in the Malgodam Basti area of Rourkela, Odisha, resulting in significant disruptions. Three bogies of the train left the tracks and entered a nearby residential colony. This incident has led to the closure of the main road between the Malgodam railway gate and Basanti Road, causing considerable inconvenience for local commuters. Railway and administrative teams are currently on-site, working diligently to remove the derailed bogies.

Ongoing Relief and Rescue Operations

According to the Rourkela Superintendent of Police (SP), preliminary information indicates that the accident occurred during a technical operation involving the railway. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities have been reported thus far. Relief and rescue operations are actively ongoing as authorities aim to restore normalcy in the area. Local residents have been advised to use alternative routes until the situation is fully resolved.

Investigation into the Accident

The railway authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the derailment. The Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of South Eastern Railway stated that the incident occurred while an empty container rake was being positioned from the Rourkela railway yard. The bogies broke into the buffer zone and subsequently entered the township, breaching a wall approximately 10 meters ahead. Thankfully, there have been no reports of injuries, and residents have been urged to comply with administrative guidance during this time.
