Contract Worker Electrocuted to Death While Cleaning Train at Bilaspur Railway Coaching Yard; High Court Takes Notice

A tragic incident occurred in Bilaspur where a contract worker lost his life due to electric shock while cleaning a train at the railway coaching yard. This has sparked significant concern and protests among the family and community.

The High Court has taken notice of the situation and expressed strong dissatisfaction with the railway’s actions. The Chief Justice and another judge have asked the General Manager of the railway to submit a sworn affidavit within three days regarding the incident.


Following the worker’s death, his family has been demanding justice, including job security and compensation. They have been protesting in front of the DRM office, expressing their anger and frustration over the railway’s negligence in handling the incident.

The worker, identified as Pratap Barman, was employed as an electrician and suffered the electric shock while repairing an AC unit on a train. Allegations have surfaced that safety protocols were ignored, leading to this unfortunate incident.


As the family continues to press for accountability, the High Court has scheduled the next hearing for September 2. The railway management is expected to provide detailed information regarding the incident and the actions taken against the contractor responsible.
