The Indian Railways has announced an update on its spending for the current financial year. By December 2025, they have already spent ₹2,03,138 crore, which is a significant portion of their total budget for 2025-26.
This spending accounts for about 80.54% of the gross budgetary support planned for the year, showing a 6.54% increase compared to the same period last year. The funds are mainly being used for safety enhancements, expanding capacity, modernizing infrastructure, and improving passenger amenities.

Notably, the Railways have utilized 84% of the funds allocated for safety projects. For capacity expansion, they have already spent ₹76,048 crore, which is 69% of the budget. Additionally, 80% of the funds planned for passenger facilities have been utilized.
The Railways is also highlighting its investment in new services, including 164 Vande Bharat trains and 30 Amrit Bharat trains. They are continuing efforts on automatic train safety systems and have achieved over 99% electrification of the broad-gauge network.
