Indian Railways is upgrading its security systems to make travel safer for passengers. What new technologies are being used for safety?

The railways are adopting several AI and Machine Learning tools to monitor trains and tracks. The Machine Vision Inspection System (MVIS) will detect faulty parts in moving trains, while drone-based thermal monitoring will check overhead equipment. Indian Railways is also working with IIT Madras to develop an AI-enabled aerial inspection system for better tracking.

How is passenger and crowd management being improved?

To prevent accidents and manage crowds, special holding areas and stricter access controls are being set up at 76 key stations. This follows a stampede incident at New Delhi Railway Station. Additional RPF personnel have been deployed at busy stations including Ayodhya, Varanasi, and Anand Vihar to ensure orderly movement of passengers.
