North Eastern Railway is building a new pillar-less Foot Over Bridge (FOB) at Gorakhpur Junction to make travel easier for passengers. To carry out the foundation work, platforms number 7 and 8 will remain closed from May 29 to June 7, 2026. This construction will lead to traffic and power blocks, affecting the movement of around 15 trains.
Which trains are affected and what are the changes?
Several long-distance trains will have changed destinations or starting points during this period. The Sabarmati-Gorakhpur service will operate between Sabarmati and Chhapra on specific dates. Other major trains will be short-terminated or originate from Gorakhpur Cantt station instead of the main junction.
| Train Name/Number | Change Detail | Effective Dates |
|---|---|---|
| Sabarmati-Gorakhpur (19409) | Terminates at Chhapra | May 28, 30, June 4, 6 |
| Gorakhpur-Sabarmati (19410) | Starts from Chhapra | May 30, June 1, 6, 8 |

Why is this construction happening now?
The project is part of the larger Gorakhpur Junction redevelopment plan started by PM Narendra Modi in July 2023. The Gati Shakti Unit designed a pillar-less FOB between platforms 5/6 and 7/8 to reduce congestion. Railway officials stated that this will improve crowd management and ensure safer movement for passengers between platforms.
Other blocks and passenger advisory
Apart from the FOB work, a major traffic block is active from May 20 to June 9, 2026, for doubling and signaling work on the Narkatiaganj-Gorakhpur/Paniyaha route. Railway administration has asked passengers to check their train status via the official website or helpline before starting their journey to avoid inconvenience.
