The North Western Railway has taken a significant step to improve the passenger experience at reservation counters by launching a new token and queue management system in the Jodhpur Division. Effective July 13, 2026, this initiative aims to eliminate long queues and prevent the chaos often associated with last-minute Tatkal bookings. By formalizing the process, the railway ensures that bookings are handled in a transparent, first-come-first-served manner.
- Token Issuance: Tokens will be distributed daily starting at 8 AM.
- Strict Sequencing: All ticket bookings must proceed strictly according to the order of token issuance.
- Expanded Capacity: The Jodhpur reservation office has doubled its counters from three to six to handle the rush.
- Passenger Focus: The expansion is specifically designed to support senior citizens, women, and travelers arriving from remote regions.
Reducing Crowding and Improving Efficiency
Senior DCM Hitesh Yadav of the Jodhpur Division highlighted that the primary goal of this new system is to create a more organized and passenger-friendly environment. By providing a structured queue, the railway hopes to reduce the stress and overcrowding typically seen at counters during the hectic morning hours. Railway authorities have requested that all passengers cooperate with staff by obtaining their tokens promptly and waiting for their specific turn to be announced before approaching the counter.
Wider Railway Reforms and Technological Upgrades
This initiative is part of a broader push by Indian Railways to optimize the Tatkal booking experience across the country. Following the Jodhpur model, the West Central Railway will implement a similar token system in its Jabalpur Division starting August 1, 2026. This upcoming rollout will feature distinct token issuance times for AC and Sleeper classes, and passengers will be required to present valid photo identification to complete their booking.
Beyond physical counters, Indian Railways and IRCTC continue to refine their digital infrastructure. The ongoing integration of OTP-based verification on the IRCTC website and mobile application remains a key strategy to deter fraudulent activities and ensure that genuine passengers have a better chance of securing their Tatkal tickets online.
