West Central Railway General Manager Dilip Kumar Singh conducted a high-level inspection of Satna Railway Station on Sunday, July 12, 2026, to review the ongoing redevelopment work. The visit served as a crucial assessment ahead of the proposed inspection by Union Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw later this month. To ensure the project meets its ambitious 2027 completion deadline, the General Manager has directed officials to expedite construction while maintaining strict quality standards and passenger-centric facilities.
Key highlights of the redevelopment project include:
- Project Budget: Sanctioned at 272 crore rupees.
- Execution: Carried out by M/s Shyam Infra Development Limited.
- Capacity Expansion: Addition of two new platforms, bringing the total to five.
- Modern Amenities: 25 escalators, 25 lifts, and a 2,286 square meter roof plaza.
- Connectivity: Two 6-meter-wide foot overbridges for separate arrival and departure flows.
- Parking: Dedicated facility for 1,300 vehicles spanning 30,900 square meters.
Architectural Vision and Project Timeline
The station is being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and the Gati Shakti Scheme. The design is uniquely inspired by the local Venkatesh Temple, aiming to blend cultural heritage with modern infrastructure. While the foundation stone was laid virtually by Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on October 1, 2023, and ground-breaking began on September 6, 2024, recent reviews indicated that progress has been slower than anticipated, with half of the work remaining after 20 months of the 24-month timeline.
Relocation of the Goods Shed
In a move to resolve long-standing traffic congestion issues within Satna city, the railway authorities are moving forward with the relocation of the goods shed to Kaima. The Railway Board has approved 40 crore rupees for this initiative. The new facility at Kaima will feature a 750-meter rail line, merchant offices, and a dedicated shed, all designed to be completed in two phases. This relocation addresses a decade-long demand from local residents and is expected to significantly improve urban mobility around the station area once completed.
