Delhi Division of Northern Railway is embarking on a major technological transformation to modernize its station operations. The division has initiated a project to install high-tech dual video display units across 16 key railway stations, aimed at enhancing real-time monitoring and minimizing human error to ensure passenger safety. Key highlights of this project include:
- 16 stations in the Delhi Division to receive new digital video display systems.
- Implementation of 55-inch high-resolution fanless PC-based display units.
- Integration with Electronic Interlocking (EI) systems at eight designated stations.
- Project completion target set within 12 months from the commencement date.
- Robust power backup features including modular power supplies, inverters, and battery redundancy.
Modernizing Signaling and Station Control
As rail traffic density continues to rise across the national capital, the Northern Railway is focusing on upgrading its signaling infrastructure to meet modern safety standards. These new dual operator Video Display Units (VDU) are designed to provide station masters and operational staff with a comprehensive, real-time visual overview of railway operations. By consolidating crucial data—such as track status, signal positions, route settings, and platform availability—onto large, clear digital screens, the system significantly reduces the cognitive load on staff and allows for faster, more accurate decision-making.
Technical Specifications and Reliability
The project involves not just the physical installation of screens, but also sophisticated hardware and software modifications to existing signaling circuits. To ensure these systems remain operational under all conditions, the Delhi Division has mandated strict adherence to Indian Railway’s signaling standards. Each unit is built to be resilient, featuring fanless PC architecture to prevent overheating and failure. Furthermore, the inclusion of redundant power arrangements ensures that even during electrical fluctuations or outages, the station monitoring remains uninterrupted.
Following the opening of bids on July 6, 2026, the Northern Railway is moving quickly to deploy these systems. This initiative represents a vital step in the broader effort to digitize Indian Railways, ensuring that one of the busiest rail networks in the country operates with maximum efficiency and ironclad safety protocols.
