Passengers at Sasaram Railway Station now have access to a new escalator facility, which was officially inaugurated on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. This long-awaited addition is expected to provide much-needed relief to commuters, especially the elderly, passengers dealing with illness, and women traveling with luggage. The automated staircase is a significant step toward modernizing the busy junction and easing movement across platforms.
- The escalator was inaugurated on July 14, 2026, to improve passenger mobility.
- The project is part of the Amrit Bharat scheme, with total station upgrades valued at over 21 crore rupees.
- Station development works are scheduled to be completed by September 2026.
- Passengers are actively requesting the installation of additional lifts across all platforms.
Infrastructure Upgrades Under Amrit Bharat Scheme
This installation is a key component of the ongoing modernization efforts under the Amrit Bharat scheme. Beyond the new escalator, the station is undergoing a comprehensive facelift to meet modern standards. Officials have confirmed that the broader development project, which carries a budget of over 21 crore rupees, remains on track for a target completion date of September 2026. This project encompasses further infrastructure improvements, including additional lifts and escalators to handle the station’s heavy footfall.
A History of Development and Ongoing Demands
The road to these improvements has been a phased process. On February 16, 2026, Upendra Kushwaha confirmed that the escalator project was nearing its final stages during the inauguration of a new parking lot. Prior to this, the station had seen other attempts at modernization, such as the lift inaugurated by MP Chhedi Paswan on May 16, 2023, which unfortunately faced technical challenges shortly after opening.
Following an inspection by the General Manager of the East Central Railway in Hajipur on February 13, 2024, authorities fast-tracked the installation of modern amenities. While the new escalator is a welcome change that addresses immediate accessibility concerns, the local passenger community continues to advocate for the installation of more lifts across all platforms. These additions are considered essential for ensuring that the station remains fully inclusive and convenient for all travelers as the redevelopment work continues toward the September deadline.
