The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has officially launched the beta version of its revamped website, marking a significant milestone in digital railway infrastructure. The platform went live on July 15, 2026, at 9:00 PM IST, following a commitment made by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to improve user experience. Passengers can access the new interface at https://www.irctc.co.in/eticket/ to explore the updated features and provide feedback before the final public rollout.
Key highlights of the new IRCTC beta portal include:
- A cleaner interface with simplified navigation and reduced distractions.
- Removal of unnecessary captchas to streamline the booking process.
- Faster checkout cycles and one-click repeat booking options for saved passengers.
- Real-time seat availability across all classes on a single screen.
- Introduction of a fare calendar to compare ticket prices across different dates.
- Massive capacity upgrade to handle 1.5 lakh tickets per minute.
- Enhanced Passenger Reservation System (PRS) capable of 40 lakh enquiries per minute.
A User-Centric Design Approach
This overhaul is the result of a collaborative effort between IRCTC and the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS). Notably, the development team incorporated direct feedback from students at the Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur, who had previously highlighted critical shortcomings in the portal to the Railway Minister. By focusing on a clutter-free design, the new platform aims to significantly reduce the time spent on booking, ensuring a smoother journey for millions of daily users.
Future Roadmap and Integration
The current beta release is a precursor to a more comprehensive digital overhaul. The Ministry of Railways has confirmed that the new website will eventually integrate with an upcoming Passenger Reservation Engine, which is currently undergoing a parallel revamp. Looking ahead, the final version of the portal is expected to launch in the coming weeks or months. This full-scale release will introduce multilingual support and dedicated, accessible facilities for Divyangjan passengers, students, and patients, consolidating various railway services into a single, user-friendly platform.
