Construction work officially commenced on July 15, 2026, at Etah railway station to extend the existing platform, a move set to significantly improve passenger safety and operational convenience. This development project aims to resolve long-standing boarding issues by increasing the current platform length to accommodate longer train rakes. Key highlights of this infrastructure project include:
• The platform is being extended by 175 meters, taking the total length from 244 meters to 419 meters.
• This expansion ensures that 16-coach express and passenger trains can fully halt within the platform limits.
• The initiative follows a successful advocacy effort by local media, leading to swift approval from the North Central Railway’s Prayagraj Division.
• Planned upgrades include improved sanitation facilities, better drinking water, enhanced lighting, and new passenger sheds.
Addressing Long-Standing Passenger Struggles
For years, travelers at Etah station—particularly the elderly, women, and children—have faced significant hardships while boarding and disembarking. Because the previous platform length was insufficient for 16-coach trains, several carriages would often extend beyond the platform area, forcing passengers to jump onto the tracks or struggle with uneven ground. This issue gained critical attention following a report by the Hindustan newspaper on May 22, which drew the immediate notice of railway officials.
Focus on Infrastructure and Amenities
Following the prompt allocation of budget by the North Central Railway’s Prayagraj Division, the project is now moving ahead at full pace. Beyond the structural extension of the platform, the station is set for a comprehensive facelift. Upgraded toilets and improved drinking water provisions are being prioritized to ensure basic hygiene standards are met for all commuters. Furthermore, the installation of better passenger sheds and modern lighting will provide a safer and more comfortable environment, especially for those traveling during late hours. This project marks a major milestone in upgrading the railway infrastructure in the region, ensuring that passenger experience remains at the forefront of the station’s ongoing development.
