Jaunpur is witnessing a concerted effort to improve its railway connectivity as local representatives and social organizations have formally approached the Ministry of Railways. The primary focus of these requests is the introduction of new express trains connecting the district to major economic hubs like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Ludhiana to accommodate the needs of over 50 lakh residents and traders.
Key highlights of the railway development demands include:
• Proposal for a new ‘Maa Sheetla Express’ connecting Jaunpur to Mumbai.
• Requirement for 10-minute halts at Jaunpur Junction and Jaunpur City for major trains.
• Expansion of infrastructure including a new yard, washing center, and shed facilities.
• Demand for direct rail links to Delhi, Kolkata, and Ludhiana.
• Installation of directional signage for pilgrims heading to Maa Sheetla Chowkia Dham.
Push for Enhanced Connectivity and Infrastructure
In a formal communication sent to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw around July 14-15, 2026, Jaunpur Member of Parliament **Babu Singh Kushwaha** emphasized the urgent need for service expansion. He highlighted that the current infrastructure is insufficient for the district’s growing population and trade activities. By requesting 10-minute halts at both **Jaunpur Junction and Jaunpur City Station**, the MP aims to streamline the loading and unloading of goods, which is vital for local commerce. Furthermore, the proposal for a **washing center and yard facility** is expected to transform the station into a more robust transit point, capable of handling higher traffic volumes.
Community Advocacy for Pilgrims and Traders
Local voices have also joined the campaign to boost regional rail accessibility. A delegation including **Ashish Mali** and **Mahendra Sonkar** submitted a memorandum to the Varanasi Divisional Railway in-charge, **Ramniwas Yadav**, around July 13-14, 2026. This group is specifically advocating for the **’Maa Sheetla Chowkiya Dham Express’** to run between Jaunpur and Mumbai/Amritsar.
Recognizing the religious and cultural importance of the region, the delegation has also requested the installation of a **directional board at Jaunpur Railway Station** to guide pilgrims visiting the famous Maa Sheetla Chowkia Dham. Railway officials have responded positively, with assurances that the request for the information board will be processed promptly, while the proposal for new train routes has been forwarded to the higher authorities for a technical feasibility study. These developments mark a significant step toward addressing the long-standing travel challenges faced by the people of Jaunpur.
