Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to mark a significant milestone in Indian Railways’ infrastructure journey by virtually inaugurating 75 redeveloped railway stations on July 17, 2026. Spanning 20 states, these projects have been completed at an **approximate cost of ₹1,570 crore**. This initiative is a core part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), which focuses on long-term master planning to turn stations into modern, passenger-centric transport hubs.

Key highlights of the upcoming station inaugurations include:

  • 75 railway stations being unveiled across 20 states.
  • Total investment of ₹1,570 crore for modernization.
  • Focus on ‘Virasat Bhi, Vikas Bhi’ blending heritage with modern infrastructure.
  • Emphasis on multimodal connectivity and urban integration.
  • Special focus on Divyangjan-friendly facilities and digital upgrades.

Transforming the Passenger Experience

Since its launch in December 2022, the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme has aimed to redefine the travel experience. The redeveloped stations are equipped with state-of-the-art amenities, including wide foot overbridges, lifts, and escalators to ensure seamless movement. Passengers can look forward to spacious waiting halls, upgraded lighting, modern sanitary facilities, and digital information systems that provide real-time updates. Furthermore, the stations have been designed with accessibility in mind, featuring ramps and dedicated booking counters for Divyangjan passengers.

A Vision for Regional Growth

Government officials have hailed the project as a major step toward socio-economic development. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai described the scheme as a visionary move that will likely boost regional trade and tourism. The inauguration ceremony will see high-level participation, with Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat attending the event at Jaisalmer Railway Station, which underwent a significant transformation costing nearly ₹140 crore.

By prioritizing efficient, safe, and modern infrastructure, Indian Railways is positioning these stations not just as transit points, but as centers of community and economic activity. This nationwide upgrade reflects a broader commitment to meeting the evolving needs of millions of passengers who rely on the rail network every day.
