The Public Works Department (PWD) in Chandauli has officially submitted a proposal for a major infrastructure project aimed at alleviating the chronic traffic congestion connecting PDDUP Nagar Railway Station to the Alinagar T-junction. If sanctioned, this project will see the construction of a 990-meter-long overbridge with a total estimated budget of 270 crore rupees. The project is set to be executed by Setu Nigam once it receives final government approval and necessary financial allocation.
- Proposed project: 990-meter-long overbridge connecting PDDUP Nagar to Alinagar T-junction.
- Estimated cost: 270 crore rupees.
- Current status: Awaiting government sanction and budget allocation as of July 16, 2026.
- Objective: To replace the century-old, narrow GTR bridge and resolve severe traffic bottlenecks.
Addressing a Century-Old Traffic Choke Point
For years, commuters traveling between PDDUP Nagar and the Alinagar T-junction have faced significant delays due to the limitations of the existing GTR bridge. This nearly century-old structure is narrow, featuring lanes that are only 3.5 meters wide, which is insufficient for modern traffic volumes. The proposed overbridge is designed to bypass these bottlenecks, providing a seamless flow for vehicles and ensuring better connectivity for passengers arriving at or departing from the PDDUP Nagar railway station area.
Broader Infrastructure Progress in Chandauli
This initiative is part of a larger effort to modernize the district’s road network. Major projects, including the six-lane and four-lane construction from Padav Chauraha to Godhna Mor, have already reached completion since 2022. Furthermore, urban improvements are well underway, with a significant drain construction project stretching from the local gurudwara to the western end of the GTR bridge nearing its final stages.
While these developments have bolstered the region’s infrastructure, the new overbridge remains a critical missing piece in the local traffic management puzzle. As of July 16, 2026, the project remains firmly in the proposal and approval stage. Residents and daily commuters are now looking toward the state government for the final green signal to kickstart construction and provide long-term relief from the daily traffic gridlock.
