Connecting Punjab and Himachal Pradesh
The newly inaugurated **Daulatpur Chowk-Kartoli rail line** is a major milestone, constructed at an approximate cost of **₹830 crore**. As a vital segment of the Nangal Dam-Talwara-Mukerian project, this line is set to revolutionize travel between Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. It will serve as a lifeline for residents in the Hoshiarpur and Una districts and provide easier access for pilgrims traveling to the **Sri Anandpur Sahib and Maa Chintpurni temple**. The section was cleared for both passenger and freight operations following a successful inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety in March 2026.
New Train Services and Enhanced Connectivity
To improve regional mobility, the Railway Board has approved a new daily express service connecting **Kartoli and Ambala City (14502/14501)**. Furthermore, the popular **Delhi-Daulatpur Chowk Express (14053/14054)** has been officially extended to Kartoli. These developments are expected to significantly ease transit between Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh, providing passengers with more reliable and efficient travel options.
Amrit Bharat Station Scheme Expansion
During the same ceremony, the Prime Minister inaugurated the redevelopment of **75 railway stations across 20 states** under the prestigious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. In Punjab, the stations receiving a modern makeover include **Jalandhar Cantt, SAS Nagar (Mohali), Sri Muktsar Sahib, and Sri Anandpur Sahib**. This initiative focuses on upgrading station infrastructure, amenities, and overall passenger experience, ensuring that Indian Railways continues to modernize its footprint to meet the growing needs of commuters.
