Passengers traveling on the Patliputra-Gorakhpur route have a reason to celebrate as the North Eastern Railway has introduced a new two-minute experimental halt at Kathkuiyan station. This development addresses a long-standing demand from local residents, significantly improving connectivity for the region.
- Train Numbers: 15079 (Patliputra-Gorakhpur) and 15080 (Gorakhpur-Patliputra).
- Effective Date: The halt commenced on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
- Duration: Experimental stop approved initially for a period of six months.
- Benefit: Expected to serve residents of over 50 surrounding villages.
Details of the New Halt
The inauguration of this halt was led by Kushinagar MP Vijay Kumar Dubey and Padrana Sadar MLA Manish Jaiswal. The decision follows persistent advocacy by local representatives, including direct communication with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav. The railway administration formally confirmed the schedule update on July 22, 2026, aiming to bridge the gap for passengers who previously had to travel seven kilometers to reach Padrana station.
Under the revised schedule, train number 15079 is now scheduled to arrive at Kathkuiyan at 9:21 PM, departing at 9:23 PM. Conversely, train number 15080 will arrive at the station at 5:16 AM and depart at 5:18 AM. These timings are designed to provide maximum convenience for daily commuters and long-distance travelers alike.
Future Outlook
This initiative is currently in an experimental phase. Railway authorities have stated that a decision regarding making this halt permanent will be based on an evaluation of passenger patronage and operational feasibility after the initial six-month period. The inauguration event saw the presence of key railway officials, including Additional Divisional Railway Manager (Operations) Ashok Kumar Verma, along with several local public representatives and BJP officials. This move highlights the ongoing commitment of the Indian Railways to enhance passenger convenience and improve last-mile connectivity in the Varanasi Division.
