A potential safety hazard was averted at Hisar Railway Station on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, when railway authorities and emergency responders acted swiftly to contain an LPG leak from a goods train tanker. The incident, which was first brought to the attention of officials by a vigilant passenger, occurred in the morning hours between 7:17 AM and 8:00 AM. The freight train was transporting hazardous cargo from Bathinda, Punjab, to Bahadurgarh/Jhajjar in Haryana, consisting of 35 wagons, 30 of which were loaded with approximately 37.6 tons of LPG each.
Swift Emergency Response
Upon receiving the alert on Line No. 5, a multi-agency operation was immediately launched to prevent any untoward incident. The response team included the Fire Brigade, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and a dedicated railway medical team. The leak was identified as originating from a lid on the upper portion of one of the LPG-filled tank wagons. As a critical safety precaution, the affected wagon was detached from the rake and moved to an isolated area near the Surya Nagar railway crossing/Jindal siding. Authorities cordoned off the site and proactively shut down the electricity supply to the affected railway line to mitigate any fire risk.
Successful Containment and Investigation
Technical experts from Bathinda and Jind arrived on-site and worked for approximately two and a half to three and a half hours to successfully seal the leak. Railway CPRO Amit Sudarshan confirmed that the situation was brought under control promptly, with no casualties or accidents reported. Following the successful containment, the railway administration has launched an official investigation to determine the exact cause of the leakage and fix accountability. Furthermore, the railway has requested an additional expert inspection from the Bathinda facility to ensure the tanker is fully secured before it resumes its transit.
