Indian Railways has announced a significant infrastructure project to construct two new underpasses in Vindhyachal, Mirzapur, aimed at streamlining travel for thousands of pilgrims. These underpasses will be located near the Rehra and Pategara Nala railway bridges to resolve long-standing waterlogging issues that frequently disrupt access to the Maa Vindhyavasini temple during the monsoon season.

The decision follows recurring challenges faced by pilgrims, where encroachment around original drainage channels led to heavy water accumulation under existing bridges, effectively blocking the primary route to the temple. By building these new structures, the Railways aims to ensure seamless transit even during heavy rainfall.
Commitment to Regional Infrastructure
Amit Kumar Singh, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Prayagraj Division, confirmed that the proposal is currently in the pipeline. He stated that construction will begin immediately once the necessary approvals are received and the mandatory survey is completed. This initiative is a vital component of the broader regional development strategy, complementing the ongoing Vindhyachal Corridor Project designed to modernize temple surroundings.
Modernizing Vindhyachal Station
This project follows a series of recent upgrades to the local rail infrastructure. Vindhyachal Railway Station was redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at a cost of ₹23.24 crore. The station, which was officially renamed ‘Vindhyachal Dham Railway Station’ in September 2025, received these modern upgrades to better handle the high volume of religious tourism. The station’s revamped facilities were inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 17, 2026, marking a significant milestone in the station’s history. With the addition of the new underpasses, the Railways hopes to provide a safer and more convenient travel experience for the lakhs of devotees visiting the region every year.
