Indian Railways has issued a directive to temporarily halt all parcel booking and handling services across major railway stations in Delhi. This measure is part of the heightened security protocols implemented ahead of the Independence Day celebrations. Passengers and logistics partners should take note of the following key updates regarding the suspension:

  • Dates: Parcel services remain suspended from August 12 to 15, 2026, with some services starting to wind down as early as August 11 for trains originating from outside Delhi.
  • Affected Stations: The restriction applies to New Delhi, Delhi Junction (Old Delhi), Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar Terminal, Delhi Sarai Rohilla, and Adarsh Nagar Delhi.
  • Scope: The ban covers all inward and outward parcel traffic, including leased second-class luggage racks, parcel vans, and demand parcel vans.
  • Exemptions: Registered newspapers and magazines are permitted, provided they clear all necessary commercial and security formalities.
  • Resumption: Regular parcel operations are scheduled to resume on August 16, 2026.

Strict Security Measures at Delhi Hubs

The Northern Railway authorities have mandated that all parcel warehouses and station platforms must be completely cleared of packages and packing materials during this window. This strict enforcement is a proactive step to prevent the transport of any suspicious items or explosives, ensuring the safety of passengers and critical infrastructure during the national holiday period.

It is important to note that these restrictions affect not only trains originating from the national capital but also trains arriving from other railway zones and divisions that have scheduled stops for parcel loading or unloading at these hubs. While parcel services are halted, passengers are still allowed to carry their personal luggage within passenger coaches as usual.

Travel Advisory for Passengers

In addition to the parcel ban, Indian Railways has announced that intensified security checks will be conducted across all Delhi railway stations between August 13 and 16, 2026. Travelers are strongly advised to plan their journeys well in advance and reach the station earlier than usual to avoid delays caused by these security screenings. The national transporter urges all passengers to cooperate with security personnel to ensure a smooth travel experience. For any urgent queries or assistance, passengers can reach out to the Rail Madad Helpline at 139.
