Indian Railways has introduced a specialized rail-mounted Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) trolley to tackle the challenging marshy terrain encountered during the ongoing Virar-Dahanu quadrupling project. This innovative solution allows construction materials to be transported directly to bridge sites via existing rail tracks, effectively bypassing the need to build temporary roads through ecologically sensitive wetlands. The trolley measures 8 by 3 meters and is engineered to transport up to 50 tons of construction materials, including earth and concrete, in a single trip.
